reading my writing is like playing 'spot the reference!' because i keep subconsciously sprinkling in little nods to my favourite things. its not obvious or anything but if someone knew anything about the media they would be like:
"why the fuck are you referencing crimson rivers people are dying...yep, and there's the shrek quote. "

Wally Darling (Welcome Home)
Tumblr media
Some songs that remind me of Wally Darling. I’ll be sure to update it over time.
This playlist might be one of my longest.
⚠️Spoilers Ahead ⚠️
———————————————
Can’t Take My Eyes Off Of You by Frankie Valli (I don’t think I need to explain this one, also puns)
Won’t You Be My Neighbor? By Mr. Rogers (again, I don’t think I need to explain this one)
It’s You I Like by Mr. Rogers
Under The Wool by K-Modo (again, self explanatory)
Beautiful Dreamer by Roy Orbison (again, self explanatory)
Im Looking For A Friend by Mr. Rogers (I can imagine Wally singing this about Barnaby, and I find that, in his own words, just the absolute most!)
Apple Village by Louie Zong ( purely based on vibes and name sake)
Paintbrush by Kero Kero Bonito (purely based on vibes and name sake)
Man Or Muppet from The Muppets Movie OST (purely as a joke)
Movin Right Along from The Muppets Movie OST (I can just imagine Wally and Barnaby singing this)
Dream by The Pied Pipers (purely based on the name and vibes)
Welcome To The Neighborhood by Brian David Gilbert (I haven’t seen a lot of people bringing up this song. Honestly? I can see Beta! Wally Darling singing this more).
Paint It Black by The Rolling Stones
Rule #4 Fish In A Birdcage by Fish In A Birdcage (I can see Wally Darling singing this, talking about The WHRP. Particularly the one member who had a nightmare about him. As well as reminding me of the hidden record player audios from the old website)
Puppet Boy by Devo (I don’t think I need to explain this one)
Dreamy Eyes by Johnny Tillotson (I don’t think I need to explain this one, also puns)
I Lost Something In The Hills by Sibylle Baier (Reminds me of this one guestbook response he wrote)
Everything Is New To Me from Guillermo Del Toro’s Pinnocchio OST
Birdhouse In Your Soul by They Might Be Giants (I can see him singing this to The WHRP, but also to the fans who watched the original show)
Polite And Good by Secret Pie (I can see him singing this to The WHRP, particularly the one who had a nightmare about him)
Apple Shampoo by Nelward (mostly based on the name, and vibes.)
The Tornado by The Owl City (Honestly I can see this applying to Eddie Dear as well)
Parallelograms by Linda Perhacs (purely due to the name and vibes)
Spiral of Ants by Lemon Demon (purely due to the name and vibes)
Fallen Down from The Undertale OST
Fallen Down (Reprise) from The Undertale OST
Just Take My Wallet by Jack Stauber (for the tragedy and angst fans, I can see this from Wally perspective, talking about Barnaby)
Frozen In Time by Infinite Frequencies
The Descent by Infinite Frequencies
Drifting by Infinite Frequencies
You Got A Friend In Me from The Toy Story OST (I can see Barnaby singing this to Wally)

I feel like that one episode of fairly odd parents when Veronica is typing to Trixie. That's how I feel whenever I type something out for you 😭. Anyways, I wanted to ask you about - Is there specific songs you personally think goes with each tpof / btd characters + your fanon / ocs? I think we all can agree that Sal's whole entire thing is the song Bitches love me by MSI but I wanna hear from your opinions :)

Megalomaniac (KMFDM)
Stand The Pain (And One)
Amerika (Rammenstein)
California Girls (Katy Perry)
Dead Man’s Party (Oingo Boingo)
Bro seriously gets down to anything energetic
Ren/Fox:
Horror of Our Love (Ludo)
Love Me Dead (Ludo)
Caramelldansen (Caramella Girls)
(I couldn’t copy the song name)

Waltz No.2 (Dmitri Shostakovich)
Clair De Lune (Claude Debussy)

Akira:
DotA (Basshunter)
Little Kandi Raver (S3RL)
Fer Sure (The Medic Droid)

Any and all pitbull songs

Some art based off the song “puppet boy” (by Devo) & the puppet arc. If you think about it, Ghost turning into a puppet is pretty great symbolism for him essentially being a puppet for Jimmy Casket.

Are there any other characters of note in Vinyl Hell :0?
hm, it depends on your definition of 'of note'- most of the characters disappear in and out but i'll talk about the more plot-instigator ones - and you can probably tell i am somewhat struggling with the mid-plot
idk if you saw allay's ask a few minutes ago um . the smart patrol are a group of 3 kids (like 10) who basically mistake the jester for a villain they fight and try to, well, fight him. they end up hitting his face and he gets knocked out and then they get bored and leave. this starts his transformation into a doll.. (they're from a devo song called smart patrol / mr dna)
when the jester is halfway between 'human' and doll, he meets seireeni (she's the devo song puppet boy). she basically tries to convince him to hang around with her and perform for crowds- and also realizes he isn't from the new wave world and tells him. she's silly but i haven't decided how yet
Farris is actually going to be important i promise . she's based on the great curve, a talking heads song from Remain In Light, a song about / with a theme of spirituality and divinity. i dont really know how to sum it up and i honestly just suggest listening to it . in contrast to most of the characters she is aware of the 'looping' nature of the musical world, and mostly views it as a freeing positive thing. this awareness will be important i just Don't Know How Yet also due to being from remain in light she is Gittens's sister
Okay this one require a bit of explanation. because i forgit to say it before.
the jester isn't a human guy. he's from the prog rock dimension. he's that yellow jester mentioned in like, 3 lines of in the court of the crimson king yayyyy. he doesn't remember this At First but, well... he will eventually encounter characters (i have not decided What Song Yet) who are going to be from king crimson songs- NEW WAVE ERA. yeah they dabbled in new wave at one point. YAY
i think that's all . i hope these make sense :-]D

YOU. I want Numbers 7, 17, 27, 78 and 87. Full spread all years + lyrics the WORKS. if you want to anyway.
OKAY. Sorry this took a minute. I was tempted to write which alter playlists certain songs show up on but this would mean nothing to anyone and will just be additional info available on request! I will always gladly explain my alters’ character playlists.
2024
7: Monster Song (Demo) - Dom Fera
For this one, I really like the chorus. The moon’s not burning through my skin tonight / so maybe that’s never been true / and the view’s not different when you think you’re right / and the lake is nothing but blue
17: Tongues and Teeth - The Crane Wives
I know that you mean so well / but I am not a vessel for your good intent
27: PERCEPTION CHECK - Tom Cardy
Fuck, his body’s just lying there, right? / right? / yes (don’t)
78: Sleep Now In The Fire - Rage Against the Machine
This one I don’t really have a favorite lyric, it’s just a banger. Cop-out, I know
87: This Ain’t A Scene, It’s An Arms Race - Fall Out Boy
Bandwagon’s full / please catch another
2023
7: Start Again - Sam Tsui
We love, we lose / and we think the best defense is distance
17: Talk Too Much - COIN
Honey come put your lips on mine / and shut me up
27: What’s My Age Again? - blink-182
They don’t make homophobia like this anymore and at least they’re not as pussy as Taylor Swift to try and hide that they were homophobic in the aughts. I said I was the cops and your husband’s in jail / the state looks down on sodomy
78: When Did Your Heart Go Missing? - Rooney
I find the lyrics “I treat you like a princess / but your life is just one big mess” very stimmy to sing
87: Puppet Boy - DEVO
I can’t hear you puppet boy / now dance dance dance
2022
7: I Miss You - blink-182
👍
17: Laplace’s Angel (Hurt People? Hurt People!) - Will Wood
Run your diagnostic tests, it’s posited nobody dies agnostic / but we still dial 9-1-1
27: Newton’s First - The Altogether
Just existing ain’t enough / so when it comes to my own birthday / I’ll forgo the bags of stuff / for a chance to prove I’ve earned them / just a fork a knife and cup / so I can eat my words and swallow all my pride
78: 9 to 5 - Dolly Parton
i looped this in my car at starbucks during my lunch after a customer yelled at me and i cried for the entire thirty minutes. That’s more important than a favorite lyric
87: Helena - My Chemical Romance
I wrote a poem based on a combination of this song, the song Gloomy Sunday, and my own psychosis. This also is more important than a favorite lyric. Here’s the poem
Tumblr media
2021
7: This Is War - Ben Kweller
Also no favorite lyric cuz it’s just a banger
17: Dear Dictator - Saint Motel
Not too late to say you’re sorry / but it’s too late to truly mean it
27: Fences - Paramore
You’re always on display / for everyone to watch and learn from
78: Going Home Again - This Way To The Egress
Our motor has died, we rely on the mercy of the wind / one day we’ll realize the end is where we begin
87: Not the Villain - S. J. Tucker
As an individual alter I must say I do like this song, especially the lines “You may call my truest name and fling it to the floor” and “you’d think this was the ending; we both have come so far / it’ll break your heart how very much alike we are”
2020
7: I Wanna Dance With Somebody (Who Loves Me) - Whitney Houston
No favorite lyric this song is 100% banger I’ll take Zero criticism
17: Lemon Boy - Cavetown
I found out my friends are more of the savory type / and they weren’t too keen on compromising with a nice lemon pie
27: Grand Theft Autumn / Where Is Your Boy - Fall Out Boy
Someday I’ll appreciate in value / get off my ass and call you / the mean time, I’ll sport my brand new fashion / of waking up with pants on at four in the afternoon
78: Boys Don’t Cry - The Cure
No favorite lyric, just a song I like
87: King of Anything - Sara Bareilles
This one has no favorite lyric because I enjoy almost every lyric
2019
7: Under Pressure - Queen, David Bowie
love’s such an old fashioned word / and love dares you to care for / the people on the edge of the night
17: Twin Sized Mattress - The Front Bottoms
With tears in my eyes, I begged you to stay / you said “hey man I love you but no fucking way”
27: feelings are fatal - mxmtoon
I need to let go and I swear that I’ve tried / but opening up means trusting others / and that’s just too much, I don’t want to bother
78: The Way You Look Tonight - Frank Sinatra
I don’t have a favorite lyric because this song is best enjoyed by remembering what it’s like to be twelve with a budding personality disorder
87: Troublemaker (feat. Flo Rida) - Oly Murs, Flo Rida
I first heard this song in a 2p!hetalia MEP and it cemented itself in my musical lexicon to be played periodically ever since. It transcends favorite lyrics. Here

Got tea, time for musical worms again.
Tree Hugger by Kimya Dawson & Antsy Pants, specifically because one part is about a snake wanting arms to hug a cactus. The want to give affection goes against the dislike for affection or physical contact, extra points for if the one who dislikes the affection is touch starved :)
The Red Means I Love You by Madds Buckley, it's mostly obsessive in a way, plus it's most just based on a character who drinks blood. Not a big fan of anime, but that song is nice.
Puppet Boy by DEVO, it's like The Fine Print to me, that in itself started an idea like the AI idea, but it's just worm Anon being in the blog like an employee, albeit an unwilling one.
Big Dick by Little Big, this one is a joke, but I feel like it fits the people who want worm sex.
ぴぽぴぽ by Serani Poji, sorta sad when you understand it. Then again, I'm just easy to upset, so that could just be me.
Bonfire by Childish Gambino, it's barely related, I just enjoy the song. Hehe :)
Make of This What You Will by Billy Cobb, sounds like another worm Anon drug trip, and I love it. Seriously, I don't even understand the lyrics but all I know is the lyrics "a sea of yellow fishes that need alcohol to breathe" – "I'm floating through marshmallows with koalas by my side" – "nobody can see me cause I've stolen all their eyes, and if you want them back you'll have to eat McDonald's fries" makes me think of worm Anon, I need whatever they are on.
The Future by Mystery Skulls, for the love of Satan this song is unexplainably worm-coded, mostly worm PastaBeer, in a good way. I would rather publicly commit suicide than say I hate Mystery Skulls, and it won't be a fast suicide.
On the topic of Mystery Skulls, might as well add these.
Hellbent by Mystery Skulls (featuring Snowblood), my unholy HELL that song is fucking amazing and I'm going to shive it onto these fucking worms.
Freaking Out by Mystery Skulls, worm Anon after figuring out they were stuck with a cannibalistic worm. That's all I have to say.
Meant to Be Yours, yes, the Heathers song. Hey, can you blame me? Mentally ill and morally fucked worm trying to convince mentally ill and morally decent worm fighting over whether or not they should blow up some place! One fakes suicide :D
Ms. Led by Jack Stauber, wonky song, but it's actually kind of sad if you think about it, and the lyrics. Like most songs by Jack.
On the topic of Jack Stauber, here's some more probably unrelated songs!
Inchman by Jack Stauber, it's seen as an abusive relationship, so there's some angst, too. Seeing as some lyrics are "hits me, hurts me, wants me hurting wrong!" and such, I can see it.
Windrag by Jack Stauber, it's about a plane crash. It's theorized that the pilot fell asleep, resulting in the crash, seeing as the lyrics say stuff like "I used to listen to the morning, but crash landing came without warning. I really tried my best, but the trip was put to rest, can't sleep now the birds are chirping." most people say that the pilot fell asleep listening to background noise, and when he woke back up, he tried to pull the plane back unti flight. Although the pilot survived, he has to live with the guilt.
Stutter by Jack Stauber, it's just worm Anon in my eyes. They seem like the type to stutter, no offense, I enjoy people who stutter, they can be nice.
As Your Father I Expressly Forbid It by Lemon Demon, worm PastaBeer getting tired of the stupid Hell baby worms... Or worm Anon, we never confirmed the father
The Fox's Wedding by MASA WORKS DESIGN, a forbidden love that is twisted and cannibalistic where the fox lures in prey just to eat them. Seems close enough, yeah? Ignoring the fact that it implies PastaBeer worm seduced worm Anon to eat them, who in return begs to be eaten. Unless you're kinky like that, I can't stop you.
Achilles Come Down by Gang of Youths, because mythology is fun. Plus, I enjoy the song itself and thinking of French worms is fun :)
IFHY by Tyler, The Creator and Pharrell Williams, sounds like Bipolar disorder and obsession mixed. Specifically Bipolar disorder, with the eh... "Favorite person" thing and such, can't say shit though, I'm Bipolar. Makes me think of the worms in the idea of Bipolar disorder, although this song in itself just suits the worms in the sense of obsession. The sense I like best, too. Hehe, worms.

94: Witches Valley // Extreme Return to the Source
Tumblr media
Extreme Return to the Source Witches Valley 1990, Auto da fé
Per the hype sheet French distributor Plus Au Sud sent out with review copies of Extreme Return to the Source, this is Witches Valley’s deal (typos retained for verisimilitude):
“WITCHES VALLEY started end of 86 when five young people originating from Louisiane, fed by american pioneer culture and the spirit of the sixtees (mods, garage punk, bad taste or experimental cinema).
With its original line-up (a singer, a guitar player, a choir member and bass girl player, an organ girl player and a drummer), the band succeeds in making a symbiosis between country, hardcore, surf, noisy, and psyche.
On stage WITCHES VALLEY turns its shows into real tribal performances with such of stage as truss of straws and hanged stooges while experimental movies are screened. The five get out of control in a quasi erotic corporal ritual.”
The release then lists a bunch of bands they played with (notably Nomeansno, Vandals, and Lords of the New Church, compares the band to Sonic Youth and the Butthole Surfers, and notes that they “sing about spatial conquest, ancestral stories, river and mountains, murders, Mother Nature… with frenzy.”
So that, in its effusive indie press release-y way, prepares you pretty well for what you can expect from this psychotic French cowpunk (cowcore?) record.

The ‘90s were full of trash culture-obsessed what-the-fuck bands, but Witches Valley were on the bleeding edge when you consider this dropped within a year of Nomeansno’s Wrong, the same year as Primus’ debut, and a year prior to Mr. Bungle’s. At times they sound like each of those bands, or like Yakko from Animaniacs put together a punk band, or even like Deerhoof (when the “bass girl player” is singing anyway), but they also very much have their own style.
Actually, you know what, this review is turning into a comparison fest, so let me just lean into it a minute and get it out of my system:
B-52’s Nomeansno Butthole Surfers Pixies Devo Los Campesinos! (?!) Primus Mr. Bungle Deerhoof Thought Industry Frank Zappa Meat Puppets Bad Brains The Refreshments (King of the Hill theme only) Dead Milkmen Red Hot Chili Peppers Beastie Boys The Gun Club Dirty Milk X Jane’s Addiction Quintron Dead Kennedys
Okay, I feel better! Helluva mood board. So like I said, despite being reminiscent of so many bands, they don’t sound derivative of them per se—all those resonances have more to do with the band changing the channel so fucking often that every song zips through like nine different genres in two to three minutes. They sweeten their bulldozing riffs and hyperactive tempo changes with vintage organ lines, psychobilly drumming, and rubber-faced cartoon vocals. If you’re not immediately put off by the sheer zaniness of it all, your best choice is to simply grab onto the rope and let their speedboat haul you through the interdimensional gator swamp they occupy. It took me some time to warm up to it--any newer LP in my collection while I take on a project that forces me to grind through records at a cracky pace is in for tough sledding, but Witches Valley won me over! The surfy “Idiot James” is an absolute blast, and I would happily mosh myself into a lather if given the chance to catch “The Ride On” at my local DIY.

I really feel like this one is a lost gem for people on this particular weirdo rock tip, and it’s a pretty cheap pickup based on current Discogs prices. I’m glad its spectacularly dumb back cover gave me pause at the shop, and happy to share it with my follower(s).
